The DEI Rebranding Debate
There is a DEI Rebranding Debate going on. For those who missed it, I will summarize it. The Washington Post article discusses the rebranding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategies due to legal and political pressures ( it’s election year in the US). Companies are shifting from race- and gender-focused policies to broader inclusion initiatives to minimize legal risks.
Despite challenges, firms like Starbucks, Eli Lilly, and Molson Coors are advancing their DEI efforts and setting ambitious diversity goals. The DEI industry, valued at $9 billion in 2023, faces a reevaluation of public commitment to diversity amid these challenges. JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon emphasizes the benefits of DEI, linking it to innovation, smarter decisions, and better financial outcomes.
I shared the comment below on LinkedIn.
It is important to think about the AND situation, not the OR situation, to clarify my words. The DEI acronyms stand for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We need to include the acronyms and also explain the full definition of the words so that people understand that DEI is not only focused on race or gender. We need to consider intersectionality, the different dimensions that are part of the core of people.
I am curious about your thoughts regarding the rebranding debate.
It is Official! Amplify DEI ESDP Certified🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm delighted to share that Amplify DEI, the consulting firm I founded, has been granted the ESDP Certification, a milestone that aligns beautifully with my 10th anniversary of advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and employee sustainability.
The birth of my son, Orlando, inspired me to advocate for workplaces that champion inclusivity and sustainability. At Amplify DEI, we're pioneering inclusive practices through innovative methods like virtual reality empathy training, micro-training sessions, and the Amplify DEI Team cards, enhancing workplace culture with authenticity.
The ESDP Certification, Europe's first program supporting ethnic minority suppliers, aims to break down barriers for these businesses, facilitating their access to new opportunities and promoting a diverse, competitive supply chain. This initiative helps create a more inclusive economy by encouraging corporations to diversify their supplier base.
This recognition validates our team's dedication and encourages us to keep innovating in the DEI space. It's a testament to our collective effort to drive societal change, aiming for a world where diversity and inclusion are integral to organizational values.
Leadership Training in Switzerland
After enduring a complex ankle injury last year, the thrill of being able to travel again (with some assistance) is exciting. The ankle recovery process has been an intense teaching moment, imparting lessons on patience, resilience, and the strength of the human spirit. Each day brings new insights as I continue navigating through this learning phase.
Now, as I prepare for a short trip to Switzerland, my excitement knows no bounds. This is not just any trip; I'm going there to facilitate the Unconscious Bias Training Leadership Edition and the Amplify DEI hackathon, where leaders come together to collaboratively find creative solutions to combat unconscious biases. It's an honor to host these sessions to create an impact in person.
Reach out for an impactful Amplify DEI training, and learn to ignite DEI from within. Curious about what others say about me? Click here to learn more.
